Dakshineswar is a small sacred town, located in the eastern side of the Hooghly River in North 24-Pargana district in West Bengal. The town is near to Kolkata main city and well connected with it. Dakshineswar is famous for Dakshineswar Kali Temple. This Temple was founded by the Rani of Janbazar, Lokmata Rani Rasmoni. The priest of this temple was Sri Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa Dev who is also regarded as an incarnation of God. Ramkrishna Dev’s greatest disciple was Swami Vivekananda.
Another beautiful temple in this town is Adyapeeth.
Across Dakshineswar on the bank of Hoogli River Swami Vivekananda founded Belur Math in 1897. Belur Math is the headquarters of the Ramakrishna Mission.
