Lakshadweep which means “one hundred thousand islands” is situated barely 250 km off the coast of Cochin. Kadmat, another island is a treat for tourists looking for serenity and peace. Known for its outstanding marine life and large lagoons is enclosed by coral reefs.
Best way to know a place is meeting the local people. With small population on these islands people are warm and friendly. 90 per cent of the population in these islands is Muslim and engage in fishing and tourism activities.
Cherry on the cake for any trip is FOOD. As the islands are in close proximity to Kerala, the cuisines reflect the Indian taste. Island dishes out variety of spicy sea-food to healthy vegetarian delicacies with great amount of coconut in every dish.
Here is a word of caution when visiting these islands. Drinking of alcohol is prohibited in apart from Bangaram. Plucking or causing any damage to Flora or Fauna is punishable by law. Be safe and not litter the beautiful islands.
