Ranthambore National Park

Spread over an area of 400 sq. kms, Ranthambore National Park is a perfect blend of nature, history and wildlife. Situated in the Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park is most popular for its Tiger Population. Among all the National Parks in India, it is Ranthambore that promises to give you a good glimpse of these majestic predators. The park has varied topography ranging from slopes, hills, steep ridges, hillocks, pebbly ravines and flat valleys. Besides tigers, the park has 272 different species of Birds, 12 Different Species of Reptiles, 30 different Species of Mammals and other animals like chinkaras, sambhars, deers etc. Hop on to the jeeps for Jungle safari to meet the most majestic predators and get an experience of lifetime.

Location: It is situated in Sawai Madhopur district of southeastern Rajasthan, about 110 km north east of Kota and 130 km south east of Jaipur.

Best time to visit: Ranthambore National Park is open for tourists from October to Mid June.

How to reach:

By Rail: Nearest Railway Station to Ranthambore National Park is Sawai Madhopur Railway Station which is 11kms from the park.

By Air: Jaipur Airport which is 180kms from the Ranthambore Wildlife Sanctuary is the nearest airport. Cab Service is available from the airport to reach Ranthambore National Park.

By Road: There are many buses available from Jaipur and other cities to reach Ranthambore National Park. Taxis can also be hired to reach the National Park.

Permits:

You can get permits for Ranthambore National Park from Project Tiger Booking Office opposite New ST Stand at start point of the resort. For foreigners they are required to show their passports. One has to pay for the usage of video-camera at the entrance of the park where as photo-camera is free to use.

Places to visit:

This small town of Ranthambore is also known for its historical background, Jogi Mahal and Ranthambore Fort is a must visit for visitors. Known for its alluring beauty, Surwal Lake situated 25kms away from Ranthambore also attracts a lot of visitors. Some of the other places one can visit are Mansarovar Lake, Pali Ghat, Rameshwaram Ghat, Kandhar Fort, Kundal Sanctuary and Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary Eco Tourism site “BALAS”.

Food: There are many restaurants outside the park serving multi-cuisine & local food. Some of the restaurants to try are The Oberoi Vanyavilas, Aman-I-Khas Resort, Nahar Haveli Hotel, The Pugmark Resort and Ranthambore Forest Resort.

Travel Tips:

  • Transistors, tape recorders, blowing the car horn and loud conversations are taboo in a national park
  • Do not feed wild animals.
  • Wear color blend clothes.
  • Do not litter the place with polythene bags, tetra packs and other such material.
  • Keep reasonable distance from the animals.
  • Do not wear perfumes or any other strong smelling substances.
