Inscribed as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO coupled with the Valley of flowers, Nanda Devi National Park, India’s second largest peak is located in Uttarakhand. It is a part of UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves; a special feature being the elevated location of about 3500 meters above the sea level.
The park is encircled with a number of peaks, viz. Trishul, Dunagiri, Nanda Devi and Bethartoli. Fir, birch, juniper, Brahma kamal, etc. are the main flora. Animals like snow leopard, Himalayan bear, Himalayan deer, etc. are a major tourist attraction. This park is also a treat for bird watchers; birds like Indian tree pipit, orange-flanked bush robin, blue fronted redstart etc. are found here.
Tourist flow is restricted to preserve the biodiversity here. The terrain being hilly, tourists must be physically fit.
