We all love ‘Mowgli’ from the ‘The Jungle Book’, but does anyone know, what was inspired Rudyard Kipling to sketch the character? The lush green trees, long bamboos & thick sal and wide spread meadows of Kanha National Park, India.
It came into being in 1933. It is one of the largest National Parks in Madhya Pradesh and a home to many endangered species. Tigers are the biggest attraction with a special abode for them in the form of Kanha Tiger Reserve. Other notable animals are theBarasinghas, Swamp deer (both have been saved from extinction), Spotted deer, Sambar, Leopords etc. This high rainfall region encourages the growth of grassy meadows which in turn provide food to the herbivores. Migratory birds thrive on the numerous aquatic plants. Reptiles and exotic species of turtles can also be found here.
Kanha National Park with its vast expanse of 1940 km2 can be best visited from the months of November to June. Nature lovers can also try open-vehicle jungle excursions, wild-life photography sessions along with other tourist attractions like BamniDadar, Shravan Tal and MachaDongar.
Either by air or by rail, this ecosystem of wildlife is a must visit for every Indian.
