There aren’t enough adjectives to describe the scenic beauty that is Matira Beach. Located in Bora Bora, French Polynesia, it has been named one of the best beaches in the world. Matira is the most famous of Bora Bora’s beaches and for good reason.
Matira Beach is a mile of exquisite white sand at the southern tip of Bora Bora Island. The mile-long stretch of silky, powdery sand slopes gently into a shallow emerald lagoon and is backed by a thick curtain of palms and tropical foliage. Everybody is welcome on this expanse of sand. There is a fun atmosphere that offers natural shade from palm trees, safe swimming and easy snorkeling.
This western-facing beach is known for its beautiful sunsets. As the evening dawns, you get to see the glowing, orange orb scatter a myriad of colors across the sky.
Matira Beach is one of the only public access beaches in Bora Bora, making it extremely popular with visitors. There are many activities including a shark feeding expedition, a half day jeep tour of the island’s rough interior and snorkeling but there is one activity pretty much everyone will enjoy and that is lazing the day away on a secluded stretch of Matira Beach and watching a brilliant sunset over the bright turquoise water.
