Google the online Giant has taken up a new initiative for the welfare of consumers. This time Google is working towards Wireless carriers in a bid to reduce the current wireless network prices. The objective of this move is to make internet affordable for everyone so that they use more and more of services offered by Google. The Service Google will offer is called Project Fi and is undertake with a view to expand its ever-growing huge empire with the help of addition of wireless networks.
The Pricing is set at 20$ for basic cellular service and for every Gigabyte of data used it will be charged at 10$, so for example if someone opts for a 5 GB plan but only uses 3 of the 5 they will only be paying for the 3 GB they used i.e 30$ instead of the $50. While other carriers let the customers carry forward unused data Google will let you pay only for the data you use, This in turn will encourage other operators to bring down their rates and change their policies revolutionizing the market.
This move is actually to encourage the consumers to move from LTE over to WiFi without dropping the call or interrupting the download, as of now only Sprint and T-Mobile networks are on the bandwagon with Google about the Project Fi. Google won’t setup new infrastructure but instead will use Sprint and T-Mobiles infrastructure and open WiFi Hotspots to enable consumers to use the service offered. The service currently is only offered in the US to only the lucky few who own the Nexus 6. Nexus 6 is a device manufactured by Motorola Mobility which was formerly owned by Google.
Another important feature to Project Fi is that Google is letting one link your phone number to any device that has a Wi-Fi connection. According to Google , you’ll be able to “connect any device that supports Google Hangouts (Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, or Chromebook) to your number” and then “talk and text with anyone — it doesn’t matter what device they’re using.”
Currently Google plans to offer the service only to the elite few who have to register to be eligible for an invite after which they’ll be able to use the service, the service is specially designed keeping in mind Motorola’s services and is specially designed for the nexus 6.
Google assures that it will only shift networks if the WiFi network is faster than the current ongoing network on the phone. The basic Cellular, Talk & Text plan will cost the consumers a base tariff of 20$
There’s no word when this will be launched in India and if it will ever be launched at all, but considering the size of Indian market I assume the service to be launched In the next year or two.
