Three software claim to have hacked the Blackberry Playbook software and promise to make a “jailbreaking tool” available to the public within a week.
Research In Motion – the manufacturer – is looking into the claim because of its far reaching implications for its reputation as the producer of devices with what has so far been considered unbreakable security.
The company said: “RIM is currently not aware of a jailbreak being leveraged by anyone other than the researchers.”
The company further said: “If it is determined that the claim is accurate, RIM will follow its standard response process to develop and release a software update that is designed to minimize adverse impact to our customers or carrier partners.”
However, the claim has nothing to do with Blackberry smartphones since the Tablets which claim to have been hacked run on QNX Operating System while the Blackberry phones run on different software.
Now, is there any lock that is absolutely tamper-proof? A sobering that, we ‘d say.
