The creator of Google’s sought after Android apps, Andy Rubin, is reportedly leaving the company.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Rubin is leaving for leading an incubator for hardware startups.
Rubin’s current project at Google, robotics, will now be handed over to professor James Kuffner, a research scientist at Google, who also teaches at Carnegie Mellon University.
Google’s CEO Larry Page praised Rubin’s contribution and thanked him.
“I want to wish Andy all the best with what’s next…With Android he created something truly remarkable-with a billion plus happy users. Thank you,” Page said in a statement.
