Ghazal concert in poet’s memory

New Delhi: A well attended musical evening, ‘Tere Mere Darmiyaan’, was organised in the memory of Mr Narayan Das Jaju, well-known litterateur, here at the Habitat Centre on June 20. Several distinguished guests attended the concert including writers, bureaucrats and artists.

The programme featured a ghazal rendition by Shashank Shekhar, famed singer and composer who has recently been awarded the title of Aftaab-e-Ghazal by the government of Telangana. Shashank presented some touching ghazals of Mr Jaju which the singer had composed especially for the occasion.

Among the poets who were in attendance were Swadheen from Hyderabad and Vijay Nishant from Faridabad. Mr Anand Kumar, managing director of National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd was among those who felicitated the artists on the occasion.

Mr Jaju, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 70, was a multi-faceted man. He was a government functionery who retired as the MD of Madhya Pradesh Forest Development Corporation. He was an avid traveller and voracious reader. However, he was a poet by heart who has left behind an impressive body of work. He was equally at home writing ghazals as well as Hind poetry. His knowledge and understanding of Indian culture and ethos was remarkable which is well reflected in his writing. Mr Jaju wanted peace and brotherhood in his country and wrote extensively about his vision of a just and fair society. Several collections of his poetry have been published besides an e-book which is available on the internet.

The highlight of the concert was the use of classical raga by Shashank in his presentation. There was very good synergy between the words of Mr Jaju and Shashank’s voice which was heartily appreciated by the audience.

Among the ghazals which caught the imagination of the connoisseurs were “Arsa hua ke mar gaya, andar ka aadmi’,  ‘Bheegi raat, bhari barsaaten’ and ‘Lautegi ab barsaat liye, teri jhalak bhi’.

About Sprightly Spirit

“I dare do all that may become a man. Who dares more is none”. And all, may be. It may be the vigor. Or the spirit. Or the courage to avoid being “politically correct” or bent. And, ban all averse with immaculate overture of graciously fathomable words firm in views. Subtle. Justifying the undying conscience. Values. Knowledge. And, dares to stay true. True to own. True to the world. And, to the words. With a dream in eyes it exists. In you. In me. In all. The sprite that never shies away. The spirit that never dies!
