More than 2,000 saplings are planted near Gangavaram Port under the ‘Karthika Vanasamaradana’
Vizag, 17th November, 2014: Gangavaram Port Limited today planted more than 2,000 saplings near Gangavaram Port premises. The initiative is a part of ‘Karthika Vanasamaradana’ programme by Honourable Chief Minister Shri N Chandrababu Naidu Government of Andhra Pradesh to recreate the green cover in Vizag . Under the program GVMC plans to plant 1 lakh saplings in the city and surrounding areas.
The event was inaugurated by Honourable MLA. Shri Palla Srinivas, Gajuwaka along with Mr. K. Raja Ratnam Naidu, Senior Vice-President (R R & Security), Mr. Janardhan Rao, Additional Director (Operations), MS. G. Jyothi, AVP Environment of Gangavaram Port Limited & Mr. Sreeram Murthy, Horticulture officer planted the saplings. GPL has planted saplings of avenue plants such as Raavi, Filtofarm, Bogada, Neredu, Marri, Vepa, Ganuga, Alitonia, Mahagani as per the recommendations of the programme Committee.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. R R Naidu Senior Vice President (R R & Security) Gangavaram Port Limited said, “Karthika Vanasamaradana is an initiative by the Andhra Pradesh government to create awareness about the importance of green surroundings and to combat the environmental hazards faced due to damage caused by the recent cyclone . Gangavaram Port fully supports the drive and we have planted more than 2000 saplings from main gate to Kannavari Palam junction and surroundings to spread the message of green harmony. We will take all steps to ensure that we continuously work towards the protection of environment and help people become more active citizens”
