Eugenie Bouchard, 20-year-old Wimbledon’s wonder girl is all set to take on sixth-seed Petra Kvitová in the Women’s single final on Saturday here at the All England Club. This will be her first appearance in the final of any major grand-slam tournament.
Petra Kvitova defeated Lucie Safarova to reach Wimbledon final.
After beating Safarova 7-6, 6-1, former Wimbledon Champion Kvitova said, “It was a tough match, mentally as well, because Lucie is a good friend of mine.”
“I know how (it feels) when you hold the trophy so I really want to win my second title here and I will do everything I can,” Kvitova added.
Thirteen-seed Canadian Bouchard ease past third seeded Simona Halep 7-6 (5), 6-2 in the other semis.
“This is what I’ve worked for,” Bouchard said after the match adding, “But it’s not a surprise to me. I expect good results like this. It’s a step in the right direction. I get to play in the final. I still have another match so it’s not a full celebration yet.”
Meanwhile in men’s draw, fourth seeded and undisputed king of grass Roger Federer will play his semifinal match against eighth-seed Milos Raonic on Friday. Top seed Novak Djokovic will meet eleventh-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the other semifinal.
