Three Rajasthan Royals players – S Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila – have been arrested for spot-fixing charges.
A special team of the Delhi police has arrested Sreesanth from Mumbai on Thursday morning. Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila were arrested last night from Rajasthan Royals’ team hotel at Nariman Point. All three players have been arrested for their alleged role in spot-fixing in the ongoing IPL tournament.
Rajasthan Royals released an official statement which says, “We have been informed that 3 of our players have been called in for investigation on spot-fixing in matches. We are completely taken by surprise. We do not have the full facts at this point and are unable to confirm anything. We are in touch with the BCCI on this matter. We will fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation. The management at Rajasthan Royals has a zero-tolerance approach to anything that is against the spirit of the game.”
The police have also arrested 10 bookies in connection with this case.
Although on Wednesday Rajasthan Royals lost their match against Mumbai Indians by 14 runs, but it is one of the best performing teams in IPL 6 and already through to the play-off. However after this incident we do not know what would be Rajasthan’s future if these allegations are proved.
