The selection panel of the Indian cricket team today announced the name of the 15 members who will comprise the squad for India in the World Cup 2015. The selectors maintained their policy of looking forward into the future of Indian cricket as there were no surprises at all in the 15-men squad that was announced today.
The side will be captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni who will also be the team’s first choice wicketkeeper. Well there is no prize for guessing that. In fact the selectors followed the expected lines. On paper the side looks a tad inexperienced but with someone like Dhoni as the captain of side we can rely on it. But India will undoubtedly find it difficult to choose the final eleven. It will be a real hard job for the team management for there is not much variety in the squad. A lack of leg spinner may also put India in trouble for records say that the leg-spinners have performed exceedingly well in the Australia and New Zealand.
The fast bowling department also has number of questions over it. The lack of consistency and the problem of leaking too much runs in the death overs will surely give the captain and the coach a tough time. Also the decision of not going for a reserve wicket-keeper in the squad does not look too convincing. Someone like Robin Uthappa could have also given a boost with his batting. He will consider himself unlucky not to make the cut.
With less than 60 days to go before the mega event India will get one more opportunity to make experiments regarding the playing eleven as they have the upcoming tri-series in Australia in hand. It will give the players an opportunity to get used to the conditions with not much time to go before the cup. India will start their title defense against their arch-rival Pakistan on February 15 at the Adelaide Oval. It will surely be a cracker of an encounter.
