Sachin Tendulkar reached yet another milestone last night during his 31-ball 35 run innings for Mumbai Indians in the semifinal of the CL T20 against Trinidad and Tobago. He now holds the record of becoming the first Asian batsman to score 50,000 runs in all recognized formats of the game. At the moment he stands at the 16th spot in the list of the all time highest scorers in cricket. The list is headed by former England captain Graham Gooch who scored 67,057 runs in 1194 matches before calling it a day. Sachin took only 953 matches to achieve this amazing feat. The only other Indian who finds a place in this list of all time top-scorers is Rahul Dravid, currently placed at number 32 with 41,650 runs.
While asked about such an achievement Sachin, as humble as ever, was happier for his team’s winning performance. In a post-match interview Sachin said, “I wasn’t aware I was so close to the 50,000-run mark…I only realized about it when it was displayed on the big screen that I was just two runs short of the mark. Actually, it feels wonderful that we won today.” Mumbai Indians coached John Wright remarked, “It’s an amazing feat… We are all thrilled about it.”
