Since his earlier days at Manchester United, Wayne Rooney has set high standards for himself. Till last day it was mostly on the field. But this time Rooney has hit the headlines for setting high standards off the field- for agreeing to sign a new contract with Manchester United that will make him the highest paid player in the Premier League.
Rooney has finally agreed to sign a new contract that will keep him tied with the Red Devils for the next five-and-a-half year, till 2019. It ended all the rumours that had cropped up before the start of the current season that Rooney was eager to leave United. According to the new deal Rooney will be paid an amount of 3 million pounds each week. That will make him one of the highest paid players in the world surpassing his former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, who left United for a record transfer fees.
This deal will ensure Rooney’s service to the 20-time English champion till the end of his career. At the moment with the team undergoing a transition under David Moyes, ensuring Rooney’s service till 2019 may well turn out to be a big boost for some spirited performances.
