Real Madrid got the taste of the first trophy of the season as they overcame the challenge of Sevilla in the one-match championship last night at Cardiff. Real got the better of Sevilla by a score line of 2-0 both goals being scored by the talismanic Portuguese Christiano Ronaldo.
Real fielded a team that had almost all of their star players including their new recruit world cup’s top scorer James Rodriguez. However it was proved once again that whoever might come in the team but Ronaldo remains the biggest threat for the other teams when they play Real in the upcoming season. Ronaldo scored both the goals, one in each half. The first one came in the 30th minute while the second one in the 49th minute of the match. Rodriguez looked impressive during his stay on the field. Gareth Bale also had a good outing as his runs in the wings were proving to be too hot to handle at times.
Sevilla also played well in patches. Towards the end of the match they created few opportunities but lack of a world-class forward made them pay heavy dividends. Iker Casillas, who had the worst nightmares during the world cup, played reasonably well under the bar. Still the real defense really needs a bit more shaping as often they looked vulnerable even against Sevilla. Bigger teams won’t let them make those mistakes in the big matches that they will have to play if they want to make a mark in this season like that of the previous year.
