The 23-year-old Lisicki, who compete her first Grand Slam final, could not hold nerve thorough out the first set and most part of the second set. Although she fought back lately but that was not enough.
“I think I was just overwhelmed by whole situation. Credit to Marion she’s been in this situation and she handled it so well,” said Sabine Lisicki.
“Love this tournament so much, love this court so much. Marion was too good. Want to thank my entire team for being there for me. This was my first Grand Slam final and I wish that I’d won it but I’ll hopefully get the chance one more time,” added the runner-up.
Bartoli is the second Frenchwoman after Amélie Mauresmo to win the Wimbledon championship.
“When I started this campaign on Court 14 if you’d told me I would win I’d think it impossible. Have dreamed of this since 6 years old,” said overjoyed Bartoli.
