Reigning champion Manchester United slumped to their 8th defeat of the season to stay adrift of the final Champions League spot in the table. On a windy Saturday afternoon at the Britannia Stadium, the Red Devils failed to register a victory that could have taken them a spot ahead of their current standings. The fans thronged to the stadium to watch a routine victory but they could not leave the field with what they have expected. Stoke City
got better of the mighty visitors with a scoreline of 2-1, both the goals being scored by Charlie Adams in either half. Robin Van Persie, who made a start along with Wayne Rooney and latest signing Juan Mata, equalized for the visitors at the start of the second half, after conceding one midway through the first half by a deflected shot of Charlie Adams. But a brilliant finish from same man, few minutes later, saw the home team restoring a deserved lead. Towards the end, Wayne Rooney had his brilliantly taken free-kick ricocheting off the post after kissing the fingertips of Begovic.
United with the eight defeat of the season are slowly moving away from a top-four finish. In this match United also did not have any sort of luck on their side. United lost Johnny Evans early in the first due to an injury and Phil Jones had to be hospitalized after clashing heads with one of the Stoke players. This will surely bring in a lot of trouble for David Moyes who is already plagued by his players’ injuries throughout the season.
