Manchester United ‘s 100% winning start came to an end although Louis van Gaal’s side took 20 shots against a resilient Newcastle outfit. Manchester United went all guns blazing in the opening minutes and Wayne Rooney, who hasn’t scored yet in the Premier League this season, had a goal ruled out for offside. Aleksandar Mitrovic replied for the Magpies with a towering header past the hapless Sergio Romero but unfortunately for the young Serb, the ball agonizingly struck the woodwork. Tim Krul pulled off a string of saves late on in the second-half to thwart Manchester United, including one brilliant one-on-one against Javier Hernandez, while Chris Smalling had his thumping header cleared off the line. Newcastle continually frustrated United and came close to taking the lead themselves in extra-time, when Florian Thauvin failed to poke home Papiss Cisse’s ball from close range. Although it ended as a goalless draw, both managers won’t be too displeased with a point each as their sides showed regained their mojo after unsatisfactory performances in the previous games.

Bournemouth registered their first ever top-flight win, as Callum Wilson inspired the Cherries to a 4-3 win over West Ham. Aaron Cresswell had a horror outing, as he was at fault for both of Wilson’s opening goals. Mark Noble converted a penalty to reduce the deficit and Cheikhou Kouyate leveled terms for the Hammers. Mark Pugh scored from 15-yards to regain his side’s lead and Callum Wilson comlted his treble when he scored his penalty after Carl Jenkinson was sent off. Modibo Maiga pulled one back for Slaven Bilic’s side but Bournemouth held on to win their first points of the season. It went all wrong at the back for the Hammers, as Slaven Bilic’s men have failed to build on their opening matchweek win against Arsenal.

Leicester City continued their unbeaten run, after a 1-1 draw against Tottenham. Bakary Sako scored a dramatic late winner on debut as Crystal Palace edged 2-1 past Aston Villa. Sunderland are rooted at the bottom of the table but opened their account for the season after a 1-1 draw against Swansea. Norwich and Stoke battled out a 1-1 draw at Carrow Road, as star signing Xherdan Shaqiri was handed his first start for the Potters.

Robert Lewandowski was Bayern’s hero as the Polish striker scored a goal in the dying stages of the match to secure all three points for Pep Guardiola’s men, after Jerome Boateng was shown two yellow cards in the span of a couple of minutes. Kevin Volland equaled the record for the fastest goal scored in the Bundesliga, when he pounced on David Alaba’s horrendous misplaced pass to make it 1-0 only 9 seconds into the game. Thomas Muller leveled for the Bavarians just before half-time before Jerome Boateng was sent off for a second bookable offence for a handball in the ball but Eugen Polanski struck his penalty against the post. Douglas Costa proved to be the difference, when he crossed the ball to Lewandowski to tap home, after an unstoppable run on the right-flank.
