Cameroon became the third casualty after Spain and Australia in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Croatia beat the Africans by a comprehensive margin of 4-0 to keep their hopes of qualifying into the next very much alive.
The Croatians began the match brilliantly getting into the lead in the 10th minute when Olic scored for them. But they failed to score in spite of playing pressing football. The first half ended with Croatia leading 1-0 and the Africans down to 10 men with Alex Song being shown the red card in the 41st minute for elbowing Mario Mandzukic without any provocation.
The 10-men Camroon kicked off the second half only to see themselves down 2-0 to a goal from Perisic in the 47th minute. Mandzukic made it 3-0 in the 61st minute and added his second and team’s fourth in the 73rd minute. It was the final nail in the Cameroonian coffin as they had absolutely no chance of scoring. Cameroon, without their striker Samuel Eto’O, did get few chances but they failed to convert.
Croatia with this win is now in a great position although they are currently positioned at the third spot in the group. A win against Mexico will see them through into the next round. For that we have to wait till Monday when the two teams lock horns for one of their final showdown in this tournament.
