BCCI President-in-exile N. Srinivasan’s plan to return to the power was washed out as the BCCI’s Working Committee meeting was called off on Friday in New Delhi after members fiercely opposed N Srinivasan’s presence at the IPL governing council meet.
According to some channels, several IPL governing council members opposed the presence of Srinivasan at the meet. Members raised questions on the appointment of the IPL probe committee which cleared Chennai Super Kings and his son-in-law Gurunath Meiyappan and High Court’s observation which said the probe panel into IPL spot-fixing is “illegal and unconstitutional”. After the heated argument Srinivasan excused himself from the meeting which was chaired by IPL Chief Rajiv Shukla. Soon after, the meeting was called off. Later BCCI said that they will approach Supreme Court against High Court ruling.
Interim President Jagmohan Dalmiya will continue in his role.
It is learnt that BCCI called off the meeting after it sensed that several of its high profile members will revolt against N Srinivasan if he remains adamant to make a comeback under this situation. Board vice-president Arun Jaitley expressed the sentiment of people as well as the legal implications to Srinivasan. It was assumed that if Srinivasan returns as BCCI president then series of PIL would be filed against BCCI and it will be creating more humiliation for the world’s richest board.
Reportedly there are at least two vice-presidents and few top officials threatened to resign if Srinivasan chaired the meeting.
