As situations escalated over night in Gujarat, huge number of police officials have been deployed as the Patel agitation enters its second day. The army has been sent down to Ahmedabad and parts of Gujarat where the protestors are expected to come and agitate for the reservation. For safety measures, schools and colleges have been shut down and internet data in a few areas has been suspended to prevent rumors from making rounds.
Last night, as Hardik Patel, the face of this agitation, was detained by the police, his supporters turned violent and several public transport vehicles were torched and damaged. Stone-pelting incidents were reported from parts of Ahmedabad, Surat, Saurashtra and North Gujarat region.
Home Ministry is in constant touch with the army forces and the Gujarat government. Earlier today, Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Anandiben Patel regarding the situation. Gujarat CM Anandiben Patel has appealed for calm, while assuring that she has initiated a probe into the action police took last night on Hardik Patel’s supporters, which apparently triggered violence.
Keeping in mind the scenes that unfolded last night and to prevent any sort of violation of law and order, police have been deployed at every nook and corner in large numbers. The police will also be keeping a close eye on WhatsApp messages and SMS’ circulating. Though internet data service has been suspended in a few areas, internet can be accessed from homes and offices.
