The television industry on Friday, was shocked and shattered by actress Pratyusha Banerjee’s alleged suicide. Pratyusha Banerjee, one of the protagonists of the popular television soap Balika Vadhu, was found dead in her Bangur Nagar flat in Mumbai’s suburban Goregaon.
Banerjee, 24, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her flat by her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh, who reportedly rushed her to Kokilaben Dirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri, where she was declared dead. A report was registered in the Bangur Nagar police station and investigations had commenced, but no substantial information was available at the time of filing this story.
Several rumors and speculations were doing rounds as the news broke. Her body was sent to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem and the police said they were awaiting the report.
Banerjee’s friends expressed utmost dismay at this unbelievable and highly saddening news and conveyed their condolences to the family members. Banerjee’s parents in Jamshedpur were informed about the tragic news and they were expected to arrive in the city by Saturday morning. Pink Villa reported that Pratyusha’s mother broke down over phone when contacted by the actress’ friend Dolly Bindra.
Meanwhile, shocked actors close to Pratyusha gathered at the hospital. Some said Banerjee was going through some financial problem, while some claimed she was disturbed over her relationship with her boyfriend. However, nothing could be confirmed as investigations were underway. Her friends described her as a bubbly girl and found it difficult to believe that she could commit suicide. Actor Ajaz Khan even went up to the extent of calling it a “murder”. Actress Dolly Bindra also said that Banerjee could not have committed suicide. Banerjee’s boyfriend, who took her to the hospital, was reportedly missing.
The Mumbai Police, however, said that they were waiting for the post-mortem reports to arrive and that the forensic team was doing their work.
