Some information was received from anonymous/mysterious individuals in Pakistan, regarding the Panthankot incident, apparently after pictures of slain Pathankot terrorists were put up on the website of National Investigation Agency (NIA). The information is being treated as crucial in recognizing the four Pakistani terrorists who had ‘stormed the airbase,’ a senior government authority stated in his statement to the press.
Last month itself, the NIA had printed pictures of the terrorists who were killed, on its website, inviting the common public to participate in giving details or anything that they knew about them. Officials stated that they indeed did receive a huge number of ‘anonymous messages’ from foreign nations, including Pakistan, that had actually helped them retrieve detailed information about the identity of those four terrorists.
“Based on phone intercepts and technical intelligence, we had some information about the identity of the four men. After we published their photographs on our website, we got information which helped us collect more personal details of these men. When we presented the details before the Joint Investigation Team [JIT], they were also convinced,” expressed a senior government official.
The Agency has identified the four gruesome terrorists as Hafiz Abu Bakar, who is said to be a local of Gujranwala (Punjab) area, Umar Farooq, a resident of Sanghar (Sindh), Nasir Hussain, belonging to Vehari (Punjab), and Abdul Qayum of Sukkur (Sindh), in Pakistan.
