VyapamScam: UNESCO calls for thorough investigation into Journalist’s death

The Director-General of UNESCO, a body constituted by the United Nations, has called on the Indian authorities to thoroughly investigate the death of Journalist Akshay Singh, associated with Aaj Taj News Channel, who died after interviewing a person associated with the Vyapam Scam.

Expressing deep condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Singh, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova said, “It is essential for rule of law and for society’s right to be kept informed, that the authorities do all they can to clarify the cause of Mr. Singh’s death. Reporters must be able to carry out their professional duties in a safe environment and crimes against them must not go unpunished.”

Akshay Singh’s death had raised the steam over the Vyapam Scam, which, both National and International media has been tracking extensively. Singh’s death was said to have occurred due to heart attack, by the doctors, however, reports claimed that he was frothing before he collapsed, which had raised a tinge of doubt on the claims of natural death.
