Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Friday forced to resign after the Congress leadership asked him to step down.
“The party high command has asked me to resign. I am resigning from the post. The Congress MLAs will elect the new chief minister tomorrow. I will continue to work for the party,” Bahuguna told reporters in Dehradun.
Bahuguna’s resignation was inevitable as the state Congress leaders and ministers of Bahuguna’s cabinet openly revolt against him. His failure to conduct the flood relief work last year only helped his rivals to raise voice against him. The Congress High command could not take risk after the powerful state leaders have informed that the party may lose all 5 Lok Sabha seats if they go into the elections under Bahuguna’s leadership.
