Sajjan Kumar acquitted in 1984 riots case; shoes thrown at judgeA a special CBI Court has acquitted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar from all charges in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case on Tuesday. After the pronounced of the judgment a shoe was thrown at the judge and protests erupted outside the court.

The Delhi Court however convicted five others – Balwan Khokkar, Kishan Khokkar, Mahender Yadav, Girdhari Lal and Captain Bhagmal – in the case of killing 5 Sikhs in Delhi Cantonment area in 1984.

Former Delhi MP Sajjan Kumar was facing charges of conspiracy and provocate a mob against the Sikh community in Delhi Cantonment area after then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination on October 31, 1984.

 Jagdish Kaur, the prime eyewitness in the case whose husband and father were killed in the riot broke down after the order.
