Law minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that government is planning to fast-track trial on criminal cases against women and children. He also said that his ministry is trying to make it easy for the common man knocking the judicial door.
In an interview with Times of India, Mr. Prasad said, “We are trying. I have already written to chief ministers and chief justices of high courts saying that criminal cases relating to women, children and elderly persons must be fast-tracked.”
“We are contemplating to scrap redundant laws. The department is already working on it. For an enabling business atmosphere, I have already written to the department to fast-track the proposed changes in the Arbitration Act. We need to collectively consider how many clearances and conditions are needed to set up an industry. We can reduce the number. Can we create an atmosphere of self- certification with serious consequences in case of violation? These are ideas that need to be discussed to boost growth. But this cannot be done by the law ministry alone. We will have to work in conjunction with other departments,” he added.
