After Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal’s controversially shocking remarks on rape, another Trinamool leader came forward to embarrass his party and Mamata Banerjee-led government.
Bankura district head Arup Chakraborty was caught on camera ordering workers to kill intruders in their homes.
A Bengali news channel televised the footage in which Arup Chakraborty was seen telling party workers, “If any outsider enters your house, cut him down, sacrifice him, (he uses the word bali) I will take care of that, you don’t have to worry.”
His remarks came in wake of a clash between BJP and TMC congress workers in Manudih village. Shockingly local police were present when Chakraborty was making the statement.
Meanwhile after facing severe criticism from all over the country, Trinamool MP Tapas Pal issued an unconditional apology.
“Some remarks made by me in the heat and dust of the election campaign have caused dismay and consternation. I apologise unreservedly for them,” Pal said.
“Whatever the provocation — and there was an attempt at provocation — those comments should never have been made,” the letter said. “In making them, I have let down my constituents and the people of Bengal, I have let down my party, the Trinamool Congress, and my political colleagues, I have let down my family, including my wife and children and my parents, and my friends,” Tapas Pal added.
Earlier, West Bengal Chief Minister and Party Supremo Mamata Banerjee said her party did not support this kind of language.
“We don’t support this. Our party is very transparent. It is his individual utterance that we do not support. What do you think? Should I kill him? What can I do? Whatever I could do. We will do through our policies. CPM leaders have said so many things against me. What haven’t they said against me. I never saw you people taking a stand then. But I will take a stand cause I think its wrong.”
Tapas Pal’s wife Nandini Pal had also apologised for her husband’s controversial statement.
“I apologise for his comment. Of course there is no question of supporting it. But yes I know there is another part of the story, which provoked him to do that. The entire incident had happened long back, what led to such a thing there is another part of the story,” Nandini said.
Tapas Pal, MP from Krishnanagar was caught on camera threatening the CPI (M) workers to “beware” of him as he would not “spare you and destroy your entire clan” and send “my boys to rape your women”.
“If any CPIM man is present here. Listen to me. If you ever touch any Trinamool Congress worker or their families at Choumaha, you have to pay for this. Don’t try to act smart with me. I am smarter than you,” Pal said.
“Earlier, you guys have bullied me on various occasions. If you insult the mothers and daughters of Trinamool workers. Then I won’t spare you. I will let loose my boys in your homes and they will commit rape. I will teach each of you a lesson,” he added.
Several Trinamool leaders have been seen threatening opposition parties with provoking speeches.
Trinamool’s Birbhum district chief Anubrata Mandal and MLA Manirul Islam from Labhpur, have been accused of killing opposition leaders and instigating violations.
