Chief Minister Nitish Kumar proves his majority in the Bihar Assembly as JD (United) won the trust motion on Wednesday after dumping ally Bharatiya Janata Party last week.
With his own 118 MLAs, Nitish Kumar needed 122 votes to win the floor test and at the end managed to get 126 votes. Congress, CPI and four Independent MLAs voted for JD (U).
22 RJD MLAs and two Independents voted against the Kumar government. All 91 BJP MLAs walked out before the votes.
“No party should have this misconception that they can form a government on their own. This is an era of alliances. I praised Atal era because he used to take everyone along in the alliance. It is good that we took this decision. Things became clearer when RSS came out with its statement highlighting ‘Hindutva’. In 2005 and 2009, why were people not called from outside? Why now? In June 2010, I was willing to quit, the alliance was at a break-point,” Nitish Kumar said in his speech.
