The Rangarajan committee has submitted its new report which says every third Indian is poor and the panel set a new poverty line.
Dismissing Suresh Tendulkar Committee report, the new report says 29.5% Indian population is poor in 2011-12.
Former RBI governor C Rangarajan has submitted the report to Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Monday.
The new poverty line estimated persons spending below Rs. 47 a day (Rs. 1,407 a month) in cities would be considered poor and those who spend less than Rs. 32 per day in village (Rs. 972 a month) will be considered as poor.
Earlier Tendulkar committee suggested Rs. 33-per-day spending mark in cities and Rs. 27 for villages to be considered poor.
