Mumbai Congress leader and the youngest son of Narayan Rane, Minister of State Nitesh Rane sparks controversy today when he tweeted that Maharashtra-based Gujaratis who praise Narendra Modi should go back to Gujarat.
“Why don’t Gujaratis go back to Gujarat if Chief Minister Narendra Modi is such a great leader?” Swabhimaan Sanghatana chief Nitesh Rane said.
BJP did not miss the chance and launched sharp attack on Nitesh.
“It (statement) would create religious and social conflict in the metropolis. The statement is derogatory towards Modi and Gujarati-speaking people” BJP leader Ashish Shelar said.
“When people from various caste and creed are living with harmony, Nitesh’s statement is polluting the social atmosphere. The state government should take this issue seriously and action should be taken against him. The government should also make its stand clear,” Shelar added.
Under fire from all quarter later Rane clarified his remarks, “I only said that those who feel Modi is doing a good job can move there. My remarks were not aimed at all Gujaratis but only at those who feel there is more development in Gujarat.”
“I have taken a political stance… I have stated clearly that people living in Mumbai who feel that Gujarat is developing more than us (Maharashtra), or those who feel Modi is developing Gujarat more than us, why don’t they go there,” Nitesh told reporters.
“I didn’t say all Gujaratis are like that. I didn’t say we will drive them (Gujaratis) out (of Mumbai),” he added.
