Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will be given special protection by the centre, similar to the President and Prime Minister following the serial blasts in Patna.
After intelligence agencies have conveyed the message to home ministry that Modi’s life is on threat, the ministry has decided to give the Advance Security Liaison (ASL) protection to him.
So far only few VIPs including the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi are under this SPG cover.
Although Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde was not ready to give Narendra Modi any VIP protection, but following the intelligence source he has reportedly forced to change his stand and agrees to give special protection to Modi.
“He (Modi) has been given sufficient security. He does not need the Special Protection Group (SPG),” earlier Shinde had said.
Narendra Modi will go to Patna again on Friday evening to meet the victims of the blasts.
