Following Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal’s step, senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar on Friday mocked Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for his humble tea-seller background.
Aiyer said that Modi can never become the Prime Minister of India but Congress can open a tea stall for him.
“He can never be the Prime Minister of our nation, he can never be. However, if he wants, we could arrange a tea stall for him here,” Aiyar said at the AICC meet.
However the first criticism comes from Congress ally and NCP leader Omar Abdullah.
“Modi has a lot of negatives but his humble origins are a positive some of us can’t claim. We aren’t helping our campaign by mocking him,” Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted.
Senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley slammed Mani Shankar Aiyar for his statement on Modi.
“The strength of Indian democracy will be proved when a former tea vendor defeats a Dynasty representative. Let this be the battle of 2014,” Jaitley wrote on her blog.
