Following Election commission’s threat to cancel Lok Sabha polls in West Bengal, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee softened her stand and said her government will comply EC’s decision to transfer eight State officials including one District Magistrate and five Superintendents of Police.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee Government informed that it would not transfer the State Government officials suggested by the Election Commission. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee defied the order and said she would go to jail but won’t transfer any officials.
The chief electoral officer of West Bengal, Sunil Gupta has removed eight officials from their electoral duties after received complaints against them for misusing powers.
“The Election Commission removed a DM and five SPs from their poll duties following complaints against them,” Sunil Gupta told reporters.
Earlier in the day the state chief secretary wrote to the Election Commission informing that although the transfer could lead to administrative problems, the state government is ready with three alternative names.
