The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa on medical ground. The AIADMK chief has been in jail since September 27 after being found guilty in 18-year-old disproportionate assets case. Earlier the Karnataka High Court had rejected her bail plea.
The 66-year-old diabetic patient, Jayalalithaa had pleaded bail on account of her age and health. She also asked the court to suspend her sentence which the Apex court later agreed and suspended her case for 2 months.
The Court has directed her to file complete documents with Karanata High Court by December 18.
“We will not give you a day more if you fail to file paperbook within 2 months,” the court said.
Jayalalithaa’s close aide Sasikala and her son Sudhakaran also got bail.
Although, Jayalalithaa said she will remain in confinement in her Chennai house for 2-3 months, the court, however, gave her permission to go to meet her supporters. The apex court also said that she should ask her party members to stop violence and restrain from personal criticise the trial judge.
After the hearing Amma’s supporters broke out into celebrations both in Tamil Nadu and in Bangalore.
