Union minister Jairam Ramesh has said that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi should apologize to the Muslims over his remarks that victims of Muzaffarnagar riots were wooed by Pakistani intelligence agency – ISI.
“His (Rahul Gandhi’s) intention was not to malign any community. But it was blown out of proportion by the media and Congress adversaries,” Jairam Ramesh said in presence of Minority affairs minister K Rehman Khan and minister of state for parliamentary affairs Rajiv Shukla.
Rahul Gandhi had claimed at an election rally in October that ICI had been contacting Muslim youth and lured them to terrorism after the riots in Muzaffarnagar in September.
Jairam Ramesh, however, defended Rahul by saying he is secular to the core,
“He is genuinely concerned about minorities, weaker sections, Dalits and deprived classes.” Ramesh said.
Ramesh also attacked BJP for trying to make the elections a presidential style of election and said India is a parliamentary democracy not a presidential one where two personalities compete with each other for the power.
