A special CBI team along with government officials will meet Italian prosecutors today to seek more information in the Rs. 4,000-crore VVIP chopper scam.
Italian prosecutors had said that they have solid evidence against the former air chief SP Tyagi who was involved in multi-crore bribery scam for buying 12 AgustaWestland helicopters.
According to the Italian prosecutors report, during his tenure as the Indian Air Force Chief from 2004-2007, SP Tyagi customized the AgustaWestland tenders very carefully so that the American and Russian competitors were removed from the race. And SPTyagi received 70 lakhs in cash (100,000 euros) via his cousins Julie (Sanjiv), Dosca (Rajiv) and Sandeep as part of kickback.
Finmeccanica, which is the parent company of anglo-Italian company AgustaWestland recently submitted preliminary report which points out a series of middlemen who used to route nearly 350 crores to India as kickbacks.
The retired Air Chief Marshal, SP Tyagi, however, has denied the charges.
