Supreme Court of Pakistan today disqualified Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani for contempt and asked President Asif Ali Zardari to appoint a new prime minister in the country. It means Prime Minister Gilani is no longer a Member of Parliament.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry today disqualified Yousuf Raza Gilani as an MP after two months of his conviction for contempt. The court also asked Election Commission to issue a notification.
President Zardari called an emergency meeting of PPP leadership in his residence and in presence of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari they discussed on Supreme Court’s ruling and possible new prime minister.
