Amidst protest from all quarters, the government of India put on hold the controversial UPSC notification on Friday.
March 5 notification of UPSC stated that efficiency in English language will be a primary requirement for candidates of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
“The said notification will be in abeyance. We will call a meeting of UPSC ( Union Public Service Commission) officials to resolve the issue, keeping in mind the views expressed by the members,” minister of state in PMO V Narayanasamy informed Lok Sabha.
“This is a conspiracy by UPSC members who know English. They have inserted an English paper by sidelining the regional languages and Hindi,” RJD chief Lalu Prasad said.
“The country has remained backward due to dominance of English. Students of rural areas would not be able to compete now. The government should bring impeachment motion against officials responsible for the notification,” JD(U) chief Sharad Yadav said.
It is very strange to know that the UPSC had released such an important notice without prior consultation the government.
