The University Grants Commission has asked the Delhi University (DU) to scrap the four-year undergraduate programme (FYUP).
In an official mail on Saturday, the UGC has asked Vice Chancellor of Delhi University Dinesh Singh to scrap the FYUP course.
The UGC had earlier asked DU to review the programme as it violates the national education norm which has a system of 10+2+3.
Despite the pressure Delhi University board stood by the Vice Chancellor, who desperately wanted to implement FYUP. In its earlier reply to UGC the DU said it had followed due procedure through amendments to university ordinance. However, the HRD ministry has denied receiving any such ordinance.
Earlier, the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) and several other student organisations like NSUI, ABVP, AIDSO, AISA, AISF, CYSS, DSU, INSO, KYS, NEFIS, PACHHAS, SFI and SYS have demanded scrapping of the program with immediate effect and also insisted VC’s resignation.
