Agriculture minister and NCP Chief Sharad Pawar condemned the killing of anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar on Wednesday.
“The progressive thought for which Dabholkar gave his life, will not die in Maharashtra,” Pawar said.
Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan also condemned the killing and announced a reward of Rs ten lakh to person giving information about the culprits who murdered Dabholkar.
Maharashtra home minister R R Patil promised action against the culprits.
Narendra Dabholkar, the prominent anti-superstition activist was shot dead by two unidentified men near Omkareshwar Temple while he was out on a morning walk on Tuesday. The 69-year-old Dabholkar fought over two-decade against outdated and inhuman social practices and formed ‘Andhashraddha Nirluman Samiti’ (anti-superstition movement).
Ironically Maharashtra government passed an ‘anti-superstition and black magic’ law in the state on Wednesday, the day after his death.
