Sahara Chief Subrata Roy was taken to custody in Lucknow after he surrendered to police on Friday morning. Supreme Court had issued a non-bailable warrant against him in contempt case 2 days ago.
“We will produce Subrata Roy before local court and will proceed as per the direction of the court,” Navneet Sikera, DIG, Lucknow said.
Subrata’s son Seemanto Roy told reporters that his father has surrendered himself to Lucknow police and it won’t affect Sahara’s business.
Earlier Subrata Roy has issued a press release stating was in Lucknow and not evading police.
“I am not absconding. I am in Lucknow. With folded hands and all humility I ask the honourable judges to leave me under house arrest with my ailing mother,” the statement reads.
He has also appealed to the Supreme Court to allow him to be with his “ailing mother under house arrest till March 3, 2014” and could reach Delhi today itself to appear before Court.
The Supreme Court will hear the case on March 4.
