Following the demand of safety in ATM counters in the country, banks are planning to charge extra Rs. 6 from the customers for every transaction. The extra cost will be used for the maintenance of the ATM kiosks and e-surveillance systems.
Currently customers are paying Rs 20 per on using other bank ATMs after conceding 5 times a month limitation and Rs 9 for balance enquiry every time.
The demands of raising security came after the brutal attack of a customer inside an ATM in Bangalore last month. Several state governments ask the banks to ensure round the clock safety inside and outside the ATMs. Already banks in Karnakata, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra have taken some safety measures like hiring security guards, installing CCTV cameras around ATMs.
However the banks are saying that this additional deployment of security measures will cost over 50,000 per ATM kiosk and there is no other choice but to increase the transaction cost and shared the bearings with the consumers.
Banks are also considering ending unlimited free ATM transactions for the same back customers and the proposal of 5 transactions per month is surfacing.
