The pope Benedict XVI has transferred one of his top official, Monsignor Ettore Balestrero from the post of Vatican’s secretariat of state to Colombia ambassador. It is highly speculated that this transfer is linked to Vatican’s confidential dossier leaks scandal.
According to Italian newspapers, Balestrero was named in the Vaticans internal probe over confidential report leaks. The scandal erupted in 2012 when some papers were stolen from Pope’s desk and published in a bestselling book. The pope’s butler was convicted in the theft and later pardoned.
Media reports are claiming that the contents of the dossier were the main factor behind Pope Benedict’s decision to quit.
Vatican however rubbishes the reports by saying ‘baseless’. It insisted that the transfer of Balestrero was regular and had nothing to do with the alleged leaks.
