Odisha’s law minister Raghunath Mohanty resigned from his post on Friday after his daughter-in-law Barsha Mohanty filed a dowry case against him and his family.
Five-time MLA from Balasore, Mohanty met chief minister Naveen Patnaik this morning and handed over his resignation.
“I have submitted my resignation to the Chief Minister on moral grounds,” Mohanty told reporters.
“Allegation against me and my family is totally false and baseless. The people of Balasore know the truth. Let the law take its own course,” he adds.
On Barsha’s complaint against the minister, his wife Pritilata and his son Rajasree, a case has been registered under section 498 (A), 506, 448 and 34 of IPC.
Barsha Mohanty has alleged that she has been tortured for dowry soon after her marriage to Rajasree in June 2012.
