ND Tiwari weds Ujjwala Sharma

Two months after he accepted having fathered 34-year-old Rohit Shekhar, the 89-year-old veteran Congress leader Narayan Dutt Tiwari has married Rohit’s mother Ujjwala Sharma on Thursday.

Following a six-year-old bitter battle by Rohit Shekhar, ND Tiwari had finally acknowledged their biological relationship earlier this year.

Congress activist Ujjwala Sharma had told Delhi High Court that Rohit is biological son of ND Tiwari and born out of an extra-marital relationship.

“Believing the repeated requests and being convinced of the love and affection shown by Tiwari hailing from a respectable and prestigious family, I submitted to emotional pressure and that culminated in the birth of Rohit Shekhar,” Ujjwala Sharma had said.

Former Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister ND Tiwari had met Ujjwala Sharma, a Delhi University professor in the 1970s when he was in power and had an extra-marital affair. Rohit was born at a time when both were married to different partners. Tiwari refused to acknowledge Rohit’s identity and years later Rohit dragged him to court against and forced him to give DNA samples to prove paternity test. The DNA report established him as Rohit’s biological father.

Under pressure Tiwari accepted Rohit as his son March this year.

“I accept Rohit as my son. It was already proved two years ago when my DNA matched his. I am proud of my association with this great family. Whatever it has been, I want to put the matter at rest and publicly accept him as my biological son,” 89-year-old Congress leader had said while hugging his son.

“I am happy that he has finally accepted the fact that I am his son. We would have anyway won the case on April 21,” Rohit had said.

Tiwari’s wife Sushila died a few years ago and they had no children.
