After being released from Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science of Imphal on Wednesday evening, human rights activist Irom Sharmila said she will continue her protest against AFSPA.
Sharmila sought mass movement against AFSPA in the state.
“I need people’s support,” teary-eyed Sharmila said in Imphal adding, “AFSPA is a draconian law.”
A Manipur Court on Tuesday had ordered Sharmila’s immediate release from jail citing lack of evidence on attempted suicide charges.
Irom Chanu Sharmila is on indefinite hunger strike for nearly 14 years, demanding withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from Manipur. The power gives unlimited powers to the security forces including shoot at sight and arrest without a warrant or evidence.
