Government serious about amending Juvenile Justice Act

The Narendra Modi-led NDA government is seriously considering amending current Juvenile Justice Act.

According to the news reports Women and Child Welfare Minister Maneka Gandhi has already sent the amendments to the Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad for consideration and Law ministry has assured a speedy clearance of these amendments.

Maneka Gandhi has been vocal about the Juvenile Justice Act which needed series of changes. Recently she said that according to the police half of the all sexual crimes against women were committed by “16-year-olds who know the Juvenile Justice Act so they can do it.”

Menaka Gandhi had said that her ministry would bring changes in the law.

The Supreme Court had also asked for stronger Juvenile Justice Act.

“You can’t have a cut-off date for crime like you have for government jobs,” the court had said.
